Frances “Fannie” Missouri Collins was born to Jasper Jones Collins and Gatsey Powell Collins on March 16, 1858, in Ellisville, Mississippi. At twelve years old, she could not read or write, but in 1920, she had learned. Also, she did not attend school. James and Fannie were married when she was nineteen, and throughout their marriage, they had eleven children. She passed away on May 20, 1951, and is buried in Union, Mississippi with her husband.

Paul’s Mother, Carline Monteith, was born in Mississippi on March 5th, 1894, to Thomas Eugene Monteith and Carrie Emily Lore. She was one of four. After marriage in 1917, she was a homemaker. She completed two years of high school. She attended the Mississippi Woman’s College with Everette Shows’s sister in 1913. They were both senior sub-freshman with colors crimson and white, flower poppy, and motto “haven’t reached the top but climbing.” Also at the Mississippi Woman’s College, she was a member of the “Mystic Eleven” club. Their colors were red and orange, their by-word was “who-oo-oo-o”, their motto was, “Would you know the joy of living? Be a part of the Mystic Eleven,” and their object was to make Saturday night pleasant. She passed away in Florence, Mississippi in October 1983.
